Students for Life Action will be on the ground Wednesday demanding no more Death by Mail Chemical Abortions, testifying in support of “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act”

“We will not be able to remain the United States of America if pro-abortion states continue to facilitate breaking the laws and ending the lives of those in neighboring pro-life states,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins. “Once again, the Pro-Life Generation will fight for a law that stops deadly Chemimial Abortion Pill trafficking. This is a matter of Life and Death.”

COUMBIA, S.C. (01-12-2026) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) students and volunteers are rallying at the South Carolina statehouse Wednesday in support of the SFLAction-inspired “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act. The bill was introduced by Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Wes Newton and co-sponsored by SFLAction Pro-Life Champion Rep. John McCravy, along with many other Pro-Life allies in the state. SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins said, “This innovative bill creates new tools for protecting innocent, preborn babies, and the Pro-Life Generation will work to ensure that Chemical Abortion Pill pushers don’t profit from the deaths of South Carolina children.”

If signed into law, the “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act” would impose criminal and civil penalties on Chemical Abortion Pill vendors sending deadly drugs into and within South Carolina. In 2023 alone, 642,700 reported abortions in the United States were committed via Chemical Abortion Pills. With Chemical Abortion Pill vendors specifically targeting pro-life states, South Carolina is a prime target due to its illegalization of abortions at six weeks gestation, making this legislation especially pertinent.

The introduction of the “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act” is a direct result of the tireless on-the-ground efforts of SFLAction in South Carolina. Our activation of students and volunteers for lobby days, pressure on politicians, and engagement with constituents via door knocking campaigns helped make this happen. Now, we’re here to finish the job.

Here’s what the “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act” will do in South Carolina:

  • Prohibits mailing, shipping, or prescribing abortifacients, including out-of-state sources.
  • Classifies committing or attempting to commit an abortion using an abortifacient as a felony punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment or a fine of up to $100,000.
  • Reinforces state sovereignty over medical regulation.
  • Provides remedies including injunctive relief, of $10,000 in damages per violation, and recovery of court costs and attorney’s fees. Excludes convicted abusers, traffickers, and rapists from bringing such civil actions.
  • Allows civil actions to be filed up to three years after the cause of action or one year after any legal stay is lifted.

SFLAction is encouraging pro-life students and volunteers to join the fight by participating in one of our State Lobby Days.

SFLAction’s push to get the “Abortion Inducing Drugs Act” introduced and passed is part of our larger Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap. Launched last November, this legislative package built upon the Gonzales v. Carhart case will help take down abortion at the state and federal level.

Newton for stalling life-saving protections for the preborn.
  • SFLAction launched coordinated efforts in the Palmetto State urging Rep. Newton and Speaker Smith to bring the “Human Life Protection Act”to a floor vote.
