Students for Life Action Releases Fall 2022 & Spring 2023 Legislative Sessions Report, Determines Life is Winning & Better Protected in a Post-Roe America

“Just as we believed we would be the Post-Roe Generation, we believe we will see abortion abolished in our lifetime — and considering SFLAction’s state policy wins already, it is not a distant reality. Life is already protected across half of the nation in just one year. We are ready to dig our heels in and save thousands of more lives through state and federal policy,” said Kristan Hawkins, SFLAction President.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-21-2023) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction), founded in 2019 by President Kristan Hawkins, has charted a course forward in a Post-Roe America and proven popular early protections of life inside the womb. Reflecting on fall 2022 and spring 2023 state legislative sessions, the organization found HALF OF ALL STATES now protect preborn life and their mothers, starting at conception all the way to 12-weeks (three months).

“Early protections for the preborn and combatting Chemical Abortion Pills gained vast popularity as we saw the goal post shift from 20 and 15-weeks to Heartbeat Abortion Prevention or better,” added Hawkins.

SFLAction reported that it inspired and helped introduce or pass six Chemical Abortion laws, four Life at Conception Acts, four Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Acts, two 12-Week Abortion Limits, and one Late-Term Abortion Limit at the state level.

Spanning from Florida to Hawaii, SFLAction worked in nearly 20 states to activate pro-life voters and save lives through meaningful legislation. As strategic underdogs, SFLAction mobilized its grassroots movement to take on difficult legislative battles while addressing prejudice exceptions that once stood as conversational roadblocks with the rule of Roe.

This legislative session (August 2022 – May2023), SFLAction has:

  • Tracked and monitored more than 1,100 abortion-related bills
  • Sent nearly 2 million personal text messages in support of pro-life bills
  • Made more than 717,000 phone calls to pro-life constituents
  • Generated nearly 300,300 emails and nearly 31,000 calls from pro-life constituents to their legislators
  • Organized more than 45 in-person lobby days
  • Collected nearly 82,000 petitions from voters
  • Inspired or helped introduce 11 bills at both the state and federal level

Finding that pro-life states welcome economic opportunity and prosperity better than those supporting abortion on demand, SFLAction reports:

“In addition to enacting pro-life protections south of the Mason–Dixon line after the fall of Roe, the NYTimes adds that people are flocking to these states as they are also more pro-business. As found in the American Enterprise Institute’s study, Americans want the freedom to live and congregate in places that have created a free culture of life.

“This includes lower taxes that allow people to flourish economically, removing regulations on housing construction, greater job opportunities, and a variety of other factors that could free up more income for couples who want to start their own businesses or family. Not only are many of these places safer for the preborn, but when looked at even more closely, the Republican areas within these states are far better off than some northern counterparts.”

SFLAction is gearing up for a busy summer and fall seasons with its National Leadership Collective StateLegislator Training and activism trips in VA, KY, IA, NH, and other states to engage in the GOP Presidential Primary as well as special and off-year elections. Keeping a watchful eye on candidates for the White House 2024, SFLAction continues to focus on state policy while collecting surveys from Presidential hopefuls.

The organization will engage in more elections and voter education efforts as 2024 approaches, holding candidates accountable to the Pro-Life Generation.
