Testimony Offered in Support of AZ House Bill 2060 to Prevent Pro-Abortion Propaganda in Schools.
“Parents don’t send their children to school to be indoctrinated to end the lives of their future grandchildren,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins. “And students need to know that their lives are valuable, that there is hope and a future for them and for their future children. As I travel across the country, I’ve seen how discouraged this generation has become, questioning whether their lives are valuable or disposable. The mindset of a culture of death must be stripped out of our taxpayer funded schools, where we should celebrate potential and not push death by abortion.”
PHOENIX, ARIZ. (03-26-2026) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) William Wilberforce Fellow Danise Rees testified today at the Arizona statehouse in support of the Students for Life Action (SFLAction)-championed “Abortion and Education Act” (HB2060), introduced by Pro-Life Champion Rep. Rachel Keshel, to stop Big Abortion’s infiltration into public school curriculum by prohibiting public schools from encouraging or committing abortions.
“Our public schools should exist to educate, support, and empower students—not to funnel them into the predatory abortion industry,” Rees testified.
If signed into law, the “Abortion and Education Act” would stop abortion vendors from providing curriculum and promoting abortion in public educational institutions, including elementary through high schools, community colleges, and universities.
Rees detailed to the committee how many of her peers feel “trapped” during unplanned pregnancy, unaware of the support systems available to them. “When institutions only point students in one direction, it should not surprise us when they feel trapped,” Reese said. “Our students deserve better than abortion propaganda disguised as education or healthcare. They deserve real support, and they deserve to know that their lives and the lives of their children matter. They deserve the truth.”
According to a January Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement poll released and conducted by Survey USA, after learning about allegations of misconduct by Planned Parenthood, nearly half (46%) of the Youth Vote would support a federal investigation for potential debarment of Planned Parenthood, with only 27% opposing. Half of youth voters believe federally funded healthcare providers that don’t commit abortions and offer the real healthcare services Planned Parenthood claims to provide can replace Planned Parenthood.
Arizona law limits abortion at viability, except in cases of life or health of the mother. Arizona law defines viability as “the point in pregnancy when, in the good faith judgement of a treating health care professional and based on the particular facts of the case, there is a significant likelihood of the fetus’s sustained survival outside of the uterus without the application of extraordinary medical measures.”
Here is what the HB2060 will do in Arizona:
- Prevent public educational institutions (elementary through high schools, community colleges, and universities) under the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) from allowing abortion vendors or organizations that refer patients for abortions to:
- Provide instruction in health education.
- Display or distribute health education materials.
- Provide school employees with curriculum.
- Withhold state aid from schools that do not comply within 90 days of a violation notice, via the Superintendent of Public Instruction.
The “Abortion and Education Act” does not apply to standard contraceptives or procedures necessary to save the life of the mother. Pro-life doctors and medical professionals have been very clear that an abortion designed to end a baby’s life would not be employed for the purpose of saving the life of the mother; though in maternal-fetal separation, performed in an attempt to save both lives, the baby may not live after delivery.
