Texas Takes on Chemical Abortion Pill Pushers in Legislation Moving in the State House & Senate

Texas State House Set to Hear Testimony on Effort to Protect Women & Preborn Children from Chemical Abortion Pill Predators

& Students for Life Action’s “Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Trafficking Act” PASSED Senate State Affairs Committee

“When getting paid to end innocent life in the womb makes you money, women’s survival and abortion-polluted water represent mere speed bumps to a payday. But Texas’ legislators have the chance this week to take a stand and to stop Chemical Abortion Pill traffickers from destroying lives and the environment,” said Students for Life Action’s Kristan Hawkins.

AUSTIN, TX (04-24-2025) – In advance of a hearing in the Texas House State Affairs Committee, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins called again for support of the Texas Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill Bills, TX House Bill 5510 & TX Senate Bill 2880, known as the Women and Child Protection Act in the Lone Star State. “The Pro-Life Generation launched the Make America Pro-Life Again Roadmap after the 2024 election so that every state in the union – even those that lost ballot initiative fights to protect Life – can engage on the number one method and means of abortion in America, Chemical Abortion Pills. Though a number of states are looking at similar legislation, Texas again is leading the way and may be the first to send this innovative bill to a governor for signing.”

Earlier this week, SFLAction celebrated as Texas State Sen. Bryan Hughes earned a 10-1 vote and victory as the Women and Child Protection Act passed out committee and can now go to the Texas State Senate for a vote.

MEDIA ADVISORY: On Friday, in the Texas House State Affairs, hearing on HB 5510 is expected to begin at 8 a.m. CT, in the John H. Reagan Building 140, North West Building on the Texas Capitol Grounds.

Testifying at that time will be SFLAction Vice President of Media & Policy Kristi Hamrick, who has been a leader in calling attention to the environmental issues of Chemical Abortion Pills.

The Online, No Test Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills set up by the Biden-Harris Administration during COVID continues today, was accelerated by abortion vendors, sometimes operating outside U.S., acting against state laws. As a result, preborn babies die; women are exposed to injury, infertility & death; and abusers are empowered. Meanwhile, pathological medical waste – blood, placenta tissue, and human remains – are flushed into America’s drinking water.

ALSO IN TEXAS: SFLAction supports Texas Senate Bill 1976 as well as Texas House Bill 3734, both of which call for regular testing of Texas’ water to check for the levels of Chemical Abortion Pill water pollution.

Anti-Chemical Abortion Pill efforts to protect lives, fertility, and the environment are wildly popular with younger voters, now almost half of the electorate. In January, Students for Life’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life AdvancementYouGov/Survey USA 2025 poll found more than 9 and 10 young registered voters, issue by issue, support these lifesaving, fertility-protecting, environmental legislative approaches.

Younger Voter supported:

  • Ultrasound screening to save lives from ectopic pregnancy: 92% feel it is important to have screenings before distributing the deadly pills, with 41% saying it is extremely important.
  • Blood testing to protect fertility: 92% say it is important, with 39% marking it extremely important.
  • Studies on the potential environmental impact of waste and drugs related to abortion: 90% support conducting, with 32% saying it is extremely important to conduct.
  • Red Bag Medical Waste disposal to protect the environment: 90% support, with 33% saying it is extremely important.
  • In-person care/screening to stop abusers from getting the pills without women’s knowledge or consent: 66% marked support.
  • MORE THAN HALF — 52% — said they view a legislator favorably when the official protected people and the environment from the negative impacts of abortion, with 22% saying very favorably.
