From California to Ohio, the Pro-Life Generation Hits the Pavement Ahead of the General Election

With the Nov. 3 general election approaching, the Pro-Life Generation is going directly to voters in key races nationwide.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction) recently deployed students and volunteers in Modesto, California, and Toledo, Ohio, as part of our nationwide Get Out the Pro-Life Vote campaign, bringing the LIFE issue directly to voters at their front doors.

These deployments are part of more than 30 door-knocking operations across 16 states planned for 2026 as we educate voters and mobilize the Pro-Life Generation in races where the lives of preborn children and their mothers are at stake.

California: Reaching Voters Who Weren’t Thinking About the Election

Our California team deployed to Modesto on Sept. 12 and 13, focusing on the congressional contest involving Rep. Adam Gray and Kevin Lincoln. California’s secretary of state has published the certified candidate information for the Nov. 3 general election.

Six students from multiple schools participated, several of whom experienced political door knocking for the first time. And one theme quickly emerged: many voters simply weren’t paying attention to the upcoming election.

Volunteers reported meeting people who had not heard much about the race or had given little thought to it before the students arrived. Others took additional literature and said they would research the candidates or spread the word.

That makes showing up at the door even more important.

SFLAction’s field operation is built around connecting election season with the legislative battles that follow it. Since our launch in 2019, students and volunteers have knocked more than 570,000 doors in key election districts and sent millions of text messages to voters.

“It was a great time getting to meet other Pro-life leaders and engage in grassroots activism to support life!” said student volunteer Aaron Heth.

Ohio: Over 2,600 Doors and numerous Minds Changed

Two weeks later, students were back on the pavement: this time in Toledo, Ohio, on Sept. 26 and 27.

The Ohio team knocked well over 2,600 doors, held nearly 200 conversations, more than a hundred of which were pro-life, changed numerous minds to SFLA preferred candidates, and activated nearly 60 voters.

Among those conversations was one with an Air Force veteran who told SFLAction Mid Atlantic Regional Manager Nicholas Cech that nobody had yet asked him for his vote.

“Try to convince me,” the voter told him.

After Cech discussed the Life issue and Derek Merrin’s pro-life position, the voter responded: “I am pro-life, I think you are right. Alright, you’ve convinced me; I will vote for him.”

“The work I did this weekend was fulfilling,” said volunteer and pro-life activist Sarah Fritz. “I spoke to several people who shared my Pro-life beliefs, and dozens of others who were undecided. I got the opportunity to encourage them to stand up for what they believed and make a difference in their community.”

First-time door knocker Grace Kimzey likewise described the weekend as hard work but credited the beautiful weather and the team around her for making the experience worthwhile.

Taking the LIFE Issue Straight to Voters

California and Ohio are part of a much larger ground game. Our 2026 Get Out the Pro-Life Vote campaign is mobilizing students, supporters, and community activists nationwide through door-to-door canvassing and targeted church flyering.

Students for Life Action trains and mobilizes pro-life leaders to influence public policy and key elections, and these general-election deployments put that strategy into practice by taking the Life issue directly to voters.

And as students saw firsthand in California and Ohio, sometimes changing an election starts with something as simple as knocking on a door and starting a conversation.
