Time and time again, the pro-abortion side has accused the pro-life movement of focusing only on children in the womb. The abortion-loving left claims that because children are in foster care or are waiting to be adopted, young lives should end before a child even draws their first breath.

Rather than address suffering or solutions to the problems of people without resources, the abortion lobby contends that they should merely reduce the number of people born. This is not only a heartless public policy to push more abortion, but it also ignores bi-partisan support for helping those in need.

In fact, a new poll out Kellyanne Conway’s KAConsulting for the Pro-Life Generation’s Students for Life of America (SFLA) & Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement (IPA) along with the Clapham Group found again that strong bi-partisan support among registered voters exists for all kinds of help for families.

And in case you’re looking for some good news, bills are already in place ready to do the hard and good work of supporting young families.

According to our new polling, 30% of voters say they are more likely to support limits on abortion if there are more resources and support available to families. The Providing for Life Act by Sen. Rubio (R-FL) would directly address support and assist unborn children, pregnant women, parents, and families. In addition, the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act would help vulnerable mothers and their children by prohibiting the Secretary of Health and Human Services from restricting funding for pregnancy centers, by Rep. Fischbach (R-MN). Both of these are pieces of legislation that are bipartisan and would accomplish both goals of reducing abortion and supporting mothers and families.

More than 7 out of 10 registered voters support expanding the Child Tax Credit, and almost 3 out of 4 (74%) of voters want to empower young families with children by supporting a national paid family leave and medical leave policy. Sen. Rubio’s Providing for Life Act would address Paid Leave and expanding the Child Tax Credit as well. This popular program is outlined in the first pillar of the Blueprint for Life, “Providing Parents with Flexible Resources to Support Birth and Early Childhood.” (Only 6% opposed.)

Pro-Life Generation CEO Kristan Hawkins details the benefits of such programming HERE.

Here are some additional pieces of legislation that would help support working families and vulnerable children in regard to the foster care and adoption systems:

  1. Protecting Religious Freedom for Foster FamiliesTo prohibit the Secretary of Health and Human Services from finalizing, implementing, or enforcing the proposed rule, entitled “Safe and Appropriate Foster Care Placement Requirements for Titles IV–E and IV–B.” By Sen. Marshall (R-KS)
  2. Adoption Tax Credit Refundability ActTo amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to make the credit for the adoption of special needs children refundable. By Rep. Nunn (R-IA)
  3. SAFE Home ActTo prohibit entities receiving Federal assistance that are involved in adoption or foster care placements from delaying or denying placements under certain conditions. By Sen. Cotton (R-AR)
  4. In Good Standing Adoption Agencies Act of 2023To provide for the Secretary of Health and Human Services to maintain a national list of licensed private child placement agencies, and for other purposes. By Rep. Lamborn (R-CO)
  5. Hospital Adoption Education ActTo direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services to develop and nationally disseminate accurate, relevant, and accessible resources to promote understanding about sensitivities regarding adoption in the healthcare industry and for other purposes. By Rep. Lloyd (R-PA)

Additionally, voters by a margin of 6 out of 10 backed a proposal to eliminate out-of-pocket costs for pregnancy and childbirth, via private insurance, and Hispanic voters really loving this concept with 68% supporting. This is a policy idea that has been championed by Sen. J.D. Vance, with SFLAction ground-floor support.

What is also important to note is that 7 out of 10 registered voters want health and safety standards for chemical abortion pills, which the Biden/Harris Administration has completely stripped away, putting women at great risk. Legislation that would directly address this problem is the SAVE Moms and Babies Act – which would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to prohibit the approval of new abortion drugs, to prohibit investigational use exemptions for abortion drugs, and to impose additional regulatory requirements with respect to previously approved abortion drugs, and for other purposes, by Sen. Hyde-Smith (R-MS) & Rep. Latta (R-OH) In addition to the SAVE Moms and Babies Act, the Teleabortion Prevention Act which would prohibit chemical abortions performed without the presence of a healthcare provider, and for other purposes, by Rep. Good (R-VA).

Several pieces of legislation address the health and safety standards of Chemical Abortion Pills, including the:

  1. Protecting Life on College Campus Act – To prohibit the award of Federal funds to an institution of higher education that hosts or is affiliated with a student-based service site that provides abortion drugs or abortions to students of the institution or to employees of the institution or site, and for other purposes. By Rep. Roy (R-TX) & Sen. Daines (R-MT)
  2. Second Chance at Life Act To ensure that a woman seeking a chemical abortion is informed that it may be possible to reverse the intended effects of the abortion if the woman changes her mind, and for other purposes. By Rep. Lamborn (R-CO)
  3. Safeguarding Women’s and Children’s Healthcare Act To require more accurate reporting of abortion drug prescribing and related adverse events, and for other purposes. By Rep. Pfluger (R-TX)

Rather than embracing reckless and blind support of the number one means of abortion in America and the world – Chemical Abortion Pills – registered voters want to see protections in place.

In this election and when it’s time to get to work, political leaders can find common ground in adding to the help available for the least of these. With an eye toward practical solutions, the SFLA/IPA/Clapham Group polling shows that politicians of all parties will gain support even as they do the right thing in providing tangible help to those raising the next generation.
