After Tax Day, the Pro-Life Gen Hit Capitol Hill with a Clear Message: Defund Planned Parenthood

Last week, many Americans had taxes on their mind as last-minute checks and filings were made to the IRS with the end of tax season. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) had federal funding on the forefront of its lobbying agenda as a group of nearly a dozen pro-life staff and students hit Capitol Hill for a full day.

The abortion giant Planned Parenthood – which is too obsessed with dollars signs to care about the death it’s distributing – must be entirely stripped of every dollar taxpayers are sending them, and in case you didn’t know, they’re getting a lot. With real services for women out the window, Planned Parenthood has done nothing to deserve the support of hardworking Americans which is why SFLAction is pushing for a variety of bills to address this at the federal level.

SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins as well as staff and students had a day of meetings in the U.S. House and Senate with key leaders. SFLAction highlighted the large number of Americans who disagree with the inhumane actions committed by Planned Parenthood every day leading to nearly 400,000 preborn deaths a year.

Savanna Deretich, SFLAction Government Affairs Coordinator, said:

“It was so refreshing to see such young students passionate to talk to their legislators in congress to protect life in law. We lobbied for more than five hours and the students enjoyed every minute of it. I am so proud of the post-Roe generation and all the great work they do. The congressional staff as well as Senator Ted Budd were all very encouraged to see so many young people being a voice and coming to our nation’s capital to do so.”

SFLAction called for legislative support and movement on:
  • Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2023 (H.R. 371)
  • No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2023 (H.R. 7)

Planned Parenthood has spread the lie that women need their services, but in reality, Planned Parenthood needs the blood money of their abortion business to survive.

As reported previously by Students for Life of America (SFLA), Planned Parenthood currently receives direct funding from taxpayer dollars amounting to more than $630 million annually while also receiving federal grant money that is stealthily crafted into other policies.

Furthermore, SFLA’s new report identified nearly 90% of the 563 Planned Parenthood facilities in operation are located within five miles of college campuses and have since increased by 8.6% in recent years. It’s clear that Planned Parenthood is targeting vulnerable young women in college while running to Washington for funding.

As noted by The Washington Post, SFLAction is “one of the largest anti-abortion organizations in the country,” and has long been preparing legislatively for a post-Roe America. After a successful lobby day, SFLAction is hopeful that these important bills will garner more support and move along the legislative process.
