Florida State Supreme Court Upholds Late-Term Abortion Limit at 15 Weeks, A Move that Also Allows Protections for the Preborn with a Confirmed Heartbeat

“This is a wonderful one-two-punch to Planned Parenthood and the pro-abortion Democrats in Florida, vindicating the work of courageous state legislators who worked to protect life in law. When Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Heartbeat protection law into effect in 2023, he took a bold stand to protect life in Florida,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Florida’s arc towards defending and protecting life has only gotten better over time, and we look forward to the next evolution in protections for the preborn babies and their mothers.”

TALLAHASSEE, FL — (04-01-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) applauds today’s decision by the Florida Supreme Court on Planned Parenthood of Southwest and Central Florida v. State of Florida, and SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins issued the following statement:

“Late term abortion is the end goal for today’s billion-dollar abortion business – and thankfully, the Florida Supreme Court rightly chose to uphold and defend life. Protecting privacy means protecting people from the government, not protecting the abortion industry from regulation or limits. The Pro-Life generation can savor today’s victory, but we must remember that there is still more to do in Florida to shore up protections for preborn life.”

With this ruling The Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act signed into law by Governor Ron DeSantis will now take effect, ensuring that strong pro-life protections are in place when a baby’s heartbeat is detected.

SFLAction and Students for Life of America (SFLA) held multiple grassroots rallies and events at the Florida Supreme Court and State Legislature to champion the cause of life over the last several years:
