Floridians Show Up to Supreme Court to Protest Abortion on the Ballot

SFLA Florida Regional Coordinator Kristen Wayne

GUEST POST: The Pro-Life Generation recently gathered outside the Florida Supreme Court on February 7, 2024, carrying signs from Students for life Action (SFLAction) reading Don’t put late term abortion on our ballot.”

SFLAction was a co-sponsor at the rally alongside Florida Voice for the Unborn, Priests for Life, Suncoast Catholic, Liberty Counsel, and Florida Preborn Rescue. Representative Mike Beltran (R-District 70-Hillsborough and Manatee County) and Representative Webster Barnaby (R-District 29-Volusia County) were also present at the Florida Supreme Court, encouraging the pro-life generation to keep fighting and standing for life.

As the Students for Life of America Florida Regional Coordinator, I had the opportunity to interview Representative Beltran after his speech.

“You guys need to get out there, start now and don’t wait,” said Beltran. “From now until November, talk with your classmates, your neighbors and your moderate friends, educate them.”

Beltran continued to talk about the importance of winning moderate voters.

“This ballot initiative will be enacted or not based on the moderate voter. If it dies or goes to the ballot, it all depends on them,” explained Beltran. “We need to convert the moderate voters, and we need to prevent the pro-abortion side from converting the moderate voters to their abortion-on-demand agenda where they basically kill the baby on the delivery table. The Florida voter needs to be educated about this.”

The Florida Supreme Court will decide by April 1, 2024 on whether the bill will go to the 2024 election ballot.

Representative Beltran confirmed he and Representative Borrero (R-District 111-Miami-Dade County) are working on a bill to prohibit all abortions in Florida, with the exception of the life of the mother.

The bill’s name is HB 1519; Termination of Pregnancies and is currently under review in the Healthcare regulation subcommittee as of January 132024. The bill, if enacted into law, would, “Prohibit person or entity from purposely performing or attempting to perform abortion; provides exception; provides penalties; revises requirements for court to issue order authorizing minor to consent to termination of pregnancy.”

Sadly, the political panhandlers from Floridians Protecting Freedom Inc.” seem to have met the 891,523 statewide signature requirements needed to appear on the November 2024 ballot.

If they included specific language on what an abortion is, the harm it causes women and children, moderate voters could be convinced to vote pro-life first. It’s likely Floridians Protecting Freedom also know this fact. They’re doing everything they can to “skate under the radar” of the Florida Supreme Court and Florida voters that just don’t have all the facts.

According to our most recent survey of youth voters, from the Students for Life of America (SFLA) & the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement (IPA):

  • More than 6 in 10 want a limit on abortion
  • 37% supported protections at a confirmed heartbeat or better.
  • More than 9 in 10 supported offering care to an infant who survives a botched abortion.
  • 31% of youth voters said they would be willing to accept limits on abortion if more help was available.

Abortion causes unbelievable harm to mothers, including mentaland physical health, as well as killing the preborn children.

Florida does not want limitless abortion on the ballot this November – that is clear from the election results in November 2022. The voters have already spoken and the voters have chosen life. I hope the Florida Supreme Court will realize this and defend life.
