“Not only did certain GOP Senators fail to go to the floor to stand with Sen. Tommy Tuberville against the Biden Administration’s illegal effort to insert abortion facilitation into military spending, but they also mocked a man for defending the least of these,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins. “Inexplicably, GOP Senators supported Biden and Abortion over Tuberville and innocent preborn babies. Primary voters will be reminded of this when the time comes, and the effort to go around Tuberville’s principled stand will be scored.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (11-03-2023) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins announced that an up-coming vote on military promotions regulations, the standing order resolution to allow military nominees to be confirmed or blocked, would be scored on the Pro-Life Generation Report Card. “It’s a betrayal of pro-life ideals not only to allow NEW funding for abortion facilitation to be added to the taxpayers’ burdens, but to attack Sen. Tommy Tuberville (Alabama) for trying to protect the most vulnerable of our military families, their preborn children. Despite the fact that members of the U.S. Senate have noted that such funding is not allowed, Senators Dan Sullivan (Alaska), Todd C. Young (Indiana), Joni Ernst (Iowa), Lindsey Graham (South Carolina), and Mitt Romney (Utah) came together on the floor of the U.S. Senate in an attack on a fellow Senator – rather than on the radical abortion-supporting administration that caused the chaos.”

On the proposed change in regulation: Currently, an effort is underway to change the regulation that allows for objection to promotions, a tool that allows minority voices to be heard. While the specific change could make it harder to object to military promotions, it would also provide a roadmap for loosening rules on other appointments, like judges, ambassadors, or to fast track bills. At issue: not only are certain GOP Senators helping the Biden Administration force abortion funding into the budget, but they are also considering silencing voices in their own party and giving away what little influence those in the minority have available.
Hawkins made the following remarks: “It was extraordinarily disappointing to watch GOP Senators essentially call for abortion funding in the military by neither addressing Sen. Tuberville’s concern and by polluting the process. With all the talk about our troubled military families, prioritizing abortion over salary increases or better conditions is a mistake. Given the certainty that funds are available for abortion travel, it’s compelling to note that those attacking Tuberville did not prioritize calls for increases in military pay or travel expenses for physical or mental therapy or just a few dollars for our fighting men and women who need a vacation. They are willing for taxpayers to pay to facilitate abortions to get a few people into new jobs. President Biden and his team of radical abortion defenders surely enjoyed the show immensely as their abuse of power was ignored. Those senators may be ignoring who started this chaos, but we won’t forget their willingness to accept funding for abortion and their failure to lead on LIFE.”
