Joe Biden’s Latest Attack Ad Says that Donald Trump Wants to Pass a National Law Restricting Abortion – We Hope So!

The onslaught of political TV advertising is underway for 2024. Joe Biden’s most recent attack ad focuses in on President Donald Trump’s record on defending life – and believe it or not, it’s not completely full of lies.

The transcript of the ad is below:

Trump clip: “For 54 years, they were trying to get Roe v. Wade overturned, and I did it. And I’m proud to have done it.”

Biden voice over: “In 2016 Donald Trump ran to overturn Roe v. Wade. Now in 2024 he’s running to pass a national ban to overturn a woman’s right to choose.

I’m running to make Roe v. Wade the law of the land again, so women have a federal guarantee for the right to choose.

Donald Trump doesn’t trust women. I do.

I’m Joe Biden and I approve this message.”

First things first – President Trump was instrumental in reversal of Roe v. Wade with his Supreme Court picks. He has also discussed a national abortion restriction law – but at the time of writing this article, the only commitment he’s made on it is comments around a 16-week law, a 15-week law, and a promise to say something about it “next week.” Hardly a slam dunk commitment to pass a national law – but make no mistake, we hope he does.

We want more than 15 or 16 weeks for a national law, as either proposal would allow more than 90% of abortions to occur. More than 9 in ten abortions happen after 12 weeks, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

But that’s where the accuracy of the ad ends.

Biden claims he would make Roe v. Wade “the law of the land again.” We wrote written extensively on why that’s not true. As we covered in a previous ad of our own, Joe Biden supports late term abortion and pro-abortion Democrats like him want to see laws far more extreme than Roe v. Wade.  Their signature healthcare policy, the Women’s Health Protection Act, would allow abortions to be conducted up until birth nationwide without any ability for the states to push back, demand taxpayer funding, and trample on the conscience rights of medical professionals.

We are waiting with bated breath to see what precisely President Trump will say next week about the pro-life policies he will support – but for once, we hope Joe Biden is right and that a solid national restriction law is what’s coming from the Trump campaign for 2024.
