Media Advisory: Students for Life Action & Sen. Lankford Lead a Call to the GOP for a Pro-Life Platform & Vision for the Party

Emergency Webcast: Monday, July 1, at 8 p.m. ET

Watch at: StudentsforLifeAction.org/Webcast

“A winning coalition needs to stand together. As President Reagan observed, social conservatives, national security conservatives, and economic conservatives make up the three legs of the conservative stool, holding up a decade-long winning coalition. We need everyone to win and given the radical abortion extremism of the Democratic Party, the GOP has a chance to energize new voters,” said President Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life Action (SFLAction). “We are looking for a champion once again.”

MEDIA ADVISORY: Tune in to StudentsforLifeAction.org/Webcast to learn more about how the LIFE issue is vital to the GOP’s success in a time of Radical Abortion Extremism in the Democratic Party.

WASHINGTON D.C. (06-27-2024) – As the media is reporting, some in the GOP want to weaken the pro-life aspirations in the platform. This is why Students for Life Action (SFLAction) will hold an emergency national webcast, “Save the GOP for Life,” with U.S. Sen. James Lankford as a part of our GOP FOR LIFE campaign. This campaign is an SFLAction initiative calling on the leadership of the only national political party poised to stand with women and preborn children to stay firm on the human rights issue of our day – abortion. SFLAction has been reaching out to the RNC Party leadership nationwide leading up to the GOP platform committee debates, asking for a continued commitment to standing with women and their children, born and preborn, and against federal support for abortion.

“If the GOP weakens a decades-long foundation in the platform, pro-life Americans will be alienated. We want pro-life voters to know they have a home with the GOP,” said Hawkins. “To be clear, both parties once were engaged in defense of innocent, preborn life, but today the Democratic Party has made it clear that the billion-dollar abortion industrial complex has their full support.”

Hawkins writes in part: “… The Democratic Party advocates and fights for abortion without limits, funded by taxpayers, without regard for conscience rights of medical workers, up to and including support for withholding medical care for infants born during botched abortions. Pro-life Americans are not against the Democratic Party … the party is against them, pushing a radical agenda out of touch with the vast majority of Americans. That hostility has been a boon to the GOP, where a compassionate alternative was available.

Defining that distinction between the Democratic Party that will limit no abortion and the Republican Party with a different world view will be vital for social issue voters this November. The Republican Party has long understood the reality of President Ronald Reagan’s coalition – balanced on the three-legged stool of conservatism – National Defense Conservatives, Economic Conservatives, and Social Issue Conservatives, which included Reagan Democrats who were disenchanted with the increasing radicalism of their party. In fact, fighting for the human rights of human beings was a commitment that President Abraham Lincoln exemplified at the founding of the Republican Party. … As I’ve written in the Washington Times, ‘the Republican Party lately makes a risky bet — that undercutting the principled position on human life will appeal to moderates who favor abortion access or independents who will never turn out in numbers to vote for the GOP on this issue. The party loses voter enthusiasm, loses the moral high ground, and loses credibility.’”

Outreach of the GOP FOR LIFE initiative includes asking candidates and voters to prioritize protecting life in law and service, WITHOUT weakening the commitment to address abortion at the local, state, AND federal levels.
