On Thursday, January 21, 2021, I had the honor to speak with Senator Thom Tillis and members of his staff. I originally emailed him to ask if he could attend our #Stand4Life Weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina, on January 28, 2021. Although we was unfortunately unable to speak at our event, he asked to set up a conference call so that we could discuss talking points and update him on what we did at our event. I was thrilled!
Prior to the call, I called Brooke Larkin, my Regional Coordinator for Students for Life Action, to review the talking points and other notable details about Students for Life Action and Students for Life of America. It was inspiring to know that Senator Tillis and his staff are truly and passionately pro-life and holds the same pro-life beliefs as me and other members of Students for Life Action. This was clear while I was on the call and it made me feel proud to represent the Pro-Life Generation. After the call, Senator Tillis and his staff asked me to send over the talking points so that they could review them and learn more about Students for Life Action and said they would send me a letter including important legislation that Senator Tillis has been involved in during his time in office.
The day of the #Stand4Life event, I checked my email and had received the letter from Senator Tillis. In the letter, he informed me that he is planning on introducing more pro-life legislation and wanted to follow-up to provide me with additional information. Senator Tillis and his staff were kind and welcoming, inviting me to reach out whenever I had questions or issues I wanted to discuss. Overall, this experience was seamless. What it comes down to is whether or not YOU are willing to take that first step and reach out to your elected officials. If I can do it, I know you can, too!
