SFLAction-Inspired Heartbeat Bill Filed in New Hampshire

“Just as we root for people whose hearts tragically stop to find healing, we root for the protection of a heart whose beating has just begun. That’s because a heartbeat is a universal sign for life and anytime it is stopped is tragic,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs & Operations. “We’re thrilled to work with Pro-Life Champions in multiple states to introduce Heartbeat legislation like Rep. Testerman who is leading the way in the Granite State.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (01-12-2023) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) commended New Hampshire State Representative Dave Testerman (Merrimack District 3) for the introduction of SFLAction-inspired legislation, House Bill 591-FN, that protects the preborn when a heartbeat is detected.

“Rep. Testerman has been leading the fight for the preborn and the introduction of this bill is needed in New Hampshire,” added Curtis. As it currently stands, New Hampshire’s law lacks serious protections for the preborn as it permits direct abortion as late as 24-weeks, more than halfway through pregnancy.

A heartbeat, which is typically detected around 6-weeks into pregnancy, would make direct abortion illegal in the state under this new measure. The winner from such legislation is the preborn and women while the abortion industry loses clients that they reap profit from.

“This has been a long and hard battle, but we won” Rep. Testerman told SFLAction. “There are those who think we should quit, but I know we should continue to win. I know with wonderful people like Students for Life, this is the best choice. God is with us and we will win!”

SFLAction and its sister organization Students for Life of America (SFLA) have been developing a plan to protect life in law and service in a post-Roe America. The introduction of this bill is one step of many outlined in its post-Roe blueprint

While the New Hampshire legislature is largely divided, SFLAction and its broad base of Gen Z and Millennial students stand ready to lobby, make calls, and testify when needed in support of this life-saving legislation.

Polling conducted by SFLA’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement found that less than 2 out of 10 Millennials want unlimited abortion through all 9 months with nearly half supporting the prohibition of abortions after a heartbeat is detected by a margin of 47% to 38%. Our study also found that six in 10 supported requiring doctors to check for a heartbeat before committing an abortion.

Once a heartbeat is heard, the humanity of an innocent preborn child is found and subjecting it to the violence of abortion should not be allowed in New Hampshire nor any state in our country.

As noted by The Washington Post, SFLAction is “one of the largest antiabortion organizations in the country,” and has long been preparing legislatively for a Post-Roe America. Fox News recognizes SFLAction “has already been pushing state legislatures” and our growing influence has even reached pro-abortion lead researcher Mary Ziegler who noted the power of our mobilization in The Atlantic.
