SFLAction Joins Pro-Life Coalition in Sending Letter to Veteran’s Administration to Block Funds from Furthering Abortion, Criticizes Biden for Ignoring Longstanding Law

“As a veteran with pro-life, pro-family values, I am appalled over the actions of the Veteran’s Administration in ignoring the wellbeing of America’s soldiers to prioritize ending our future families.” said Titus Folks, SFLAction National Activism Coordinator. “The healthcare offered to veterans should aim to support our families, but under President Biden it seeks to funnel more money for more abortion.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (12-14-2022) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) joined more than 40 pro-life organizations in sending a letter to Capitol Hill over President Biden’s illegal push for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to receive more funding for direct abortion. “Americans would be stunned to know their taxpayer dollars at the VA don’t benefit us who have served, but rather help end the life of a preborn child,” added Folks, an eight-year Navy Veteran and SFLAction staff member.

By means of a $71 million increase in taxpayer funding to the Office of Women’s Health at the VA, the Biden Administration seeks to push abortion of members of the U.S. military in direct violation of Section 106(A) of the Veterans Health Care Act of 1992 which specifically prohibits the VA from providing abortion.

In part, the letter from the pro-life coalition reads:

“House and Senate appropriations bills released in the summer include a $71 million increase in funding over the fiscal year 2022 level for a total allocation of $911 million for the Office of Women’s Health at the VA. It was only after these increases were secured in the introduced text of the Military Construction-Veterans Affairs Appropriations bills that the VA released their plan to use taxpayer dollars to fund abortion.

“While there may be many compelling reasons to warrant such an increase, the administration has made clear that it will prioritize subsidizing the abortion IFR. Since 1992, the VA has been statutorily prohibited from using taxpayer dollars for abortion, thereby prioritizing scarce resources for the life-affirming health care needs of American veterans.”

Earlier this fall, SFLAction commented on Biden’s VA plans to push unlawful and unethical abortion into Veterans Service, notably in states where preborn life is protected. SFLAction collected comments from pro-life leaders around the nation as Biden supported the proposed measure to prioritize more abortion and life-ending counseling to pregnant veterans and VA beneficiaries.

As noted by The Washington Post, SFLAction is “one of the largest antiabortion organizations in the country,” and has long been preparing legislatively for a Post-Roe America. Fox Newsrecognizes SFLAction “has already been pushing state legislatures” and our growing influence has even reached pro-abortion lead researcher Mary Ziegler who noted the power of our mobilization in The Atlantic.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,300 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
