SFLAction’s Pro-Life Champion Introduces Expanded Measure to Block Deadly Chemical Abortion Pills from Hitting Iowa Communities

“With a new session in the State House and new pro-abortion policies to tackle, we’re thrilled to once again work with Rep. Shipley to introduce cutting-edge legislation that prevents Chemical Abortion Pills from harming vulnerable women and preborn babies in Iowa,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs & Operations. “SFLAction will be mobilized and back on the ground in Iowa to support this bill and other pieces of pro-life legislation that safeguard women and the preborn from abortion.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (01-31-2023) – Once again, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is honored to work with State Representative Jeff Shipley (HD-87) in Iowa to combat the deadly distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills. With the re-introduction of the SFLAction-inspired Chemical Abortion Ban, HF 146, Iowa is one step closer to limiting access to drugs that lead to injury, infertility, death, and misuse from abusers.

“My deep concern with the likeliness of these pills empowering human traffickers and abusers is why I’m re-introducing this legislation,” Rep. Shipley told SFLAction. “These pills represent anything but women’s empowerment, but instead are used as a tool for the vilest form of abuse and modern-day slavery.”

In addition, Chemical Abortion Pills are known to cause four times more complications than surgical abortion and are rapidly rising as the most frequent method of direct abortion despite all of the risks. Those who stand to profit off these drugs in the abortion lobby oftentimes do not inform women about the risks and pain that mifepristone and misoprostol used in Chemical Abortions brings—as well as the impact it has on public waterways.

SFLAction regards Rep. Shipley as a proven pro-life fighter for his efforts in getting a vote on this bill last session. We’re thrilled to see many co-sponsors sign on this year to back Rep. Shipley’s efforts on HF 146.

During last year’s primaries, SFLAction leaders were able to knock 366 doors, make 50,430 phone calls, and send 10,783 text messages highlighting Rep. Shipley’s pro-life accomplishments in the community. Similar legislation has been introduced in West Virginia and Wyoming.
