“We watched in dismay as Democrats, joined by a few Republicans, allowed abortion into the Arizona Constitution after the state Supreme Court ruled that preborn life was worthy of protection,” said SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs. “Tonight’s re-election of pro-life stalwarts and defeat of Republicans who turn their backs on pro-life voters and preborn babies is a small step in the right direction towards re-establishing those critical protections for Life in Arizona. We vote pro-life first.”

PHOENIX (07-30-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the election of three pro-life candidates and incumbents after last night’s Arizona’s Senate and House primary races. SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs said, “Last night was a clear signal to pro-abortion Republicans that siding with radical abortion extremists in the Democratic Party to betray voter values will not be ignored.”
Leading up to the election, SFLAction sent out 42,199 text messages and 46,880 phone calls across five targeted districts, knocking on 1,368 doors, and sending 50,325 pieces of mail.
In May, SFLAction volunteers and staff walked through the districts of the three House Republicans and two State Senate Republicans who threw their votes behind pro-abortion Democrats, ensuring passage of HB2677, which removed the recently upheld pro-life laws protecting life early in pregnancy.
Wins in targeted races include:
- LD 7: Wendy Rogers - Senate
-
- A consistent pro-life advocate from her time in the Senate. Her opponent, Rep. David Cook has close ties with Democrats and often votes with them when not under election pressure.
- LD 9: Robert Scantlebury – Senate
-
- Came close to victory in 2022 and will be a top race to watch for engagement in the fall.

In 2023 and 2024, leading up to the primary, SFLAction supported numerous pieces of pro-life legislation in Arizona and held numerous rallies and Lobby Days to educate voters, including:
- Spearheading the introduction of and lobbying and testifying in support of Arizona’s HB 2810 (to protect children from abortion violence at the moment of conception) and HB 2811 (to protect children and mothers from the predatory Chemical Abortion industry).
- Hosting a multi-day Political Leadership Workshop to train SFLAction student leaders, SBA Pro-Life America staffers, and Arizona Life Coalition board members.
- Rallying outside of the Arizona Supreme Court on Tuesday, Dec. 12, as the justices heard oral arguments in the case filed by Planned Parenthood vs. Kris Mayes/Hazelrigg.

- Hosting Lobby Days and protests in opposition of HB2677 and SB1734, which overturned the current Arizona law that protects both the life of the mother and preborn baby from the moment of conception.
Arizona has become a battleground for pro-life activity since the Arizona State Supreme Court overturned an Arizona appellate court panel ruling in December 2022 that stated a 15-week restriction would remain in place. This divide is reflected in the report card score for the state.
Like several other states this November, Arizona will face an abortion ballot referendum that could dramatically expand abortion in the state, allowing abortion up until birth.
Across the country, SFLAction is engaging in multiple “Decline to Sign” and “Just Vote No” campaigns, empowering students and volunteers with resources and materials to push back against the intentionally confusing signature and ballot campaigns, which are favored tool of pro-abortion groups for their Get-Out-The-Vote effort on behalf of a faltering Biden Administration.
SFLAction also released two separate grassroots activism kits to help turn the tables on pro-abortion lobbyists across the country. These kits contain numerous materials, buttons, fliers, and signs for groups to organize their own rallies and educate their neighbors and fellow voters.
