FREDERICKSBURG, V.A. (05-08-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is releasing resource kits to help to help push back against ballot initiatives and signature collection efforts undertaken by the pro-abortion lobbyists across the country. In a statement, SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins said, “The mainstream press and the Democrats want the pro-life movement discouraged, our morale low, and for us to believe that the pro-life movement is a political loser in 2024. If that was true, they wouldn’t be going all in on abortion this election. That’s why we’re equipping our grassroots army with the resources, kits, and tools they need to beat the pro-abortion lobby at their own game.”
SFLAction has long documented the ongoing attempts by the pro-abortion lobby to put abortion on the ballot nationwide through signature collection campaigns and ballot initiatives. Pro-abortion groups often take advantage of intentionally confusing ballot language to push for nearly limitless abortion in states with ballot referendums.

So far in 2024, four states have confirmed abortion will be on the ballot:
- Arizona
- Florida
- Maryland
New York’s ballot initiative was put on hold due to a recent judicial ruling, while South Dakota and Missouri are currently reviewing submitted signatures post deadline. Six additional states are still collecting signatures.
Earlier in 2024, SFLAction worked to prevent abortion from getting on the ballot, turning voter education and legislative activism into victory in Maine and New Hampshire, where abortion ballot initiatives were stopped. SFLAction is planning additional grassroots activism and ad spend in key states this fall.

“We’ve seen time and time again the abortion lobby and their corporate funders rely on these signature collection campaigns and ballot referendums, largely because they have language that’s unfamiliar to voters and often written in a deliberately confusing way,” said Hawkins. “Obfuscation and confusion allow the pro-abortion side to push the issue further than voters understand or even want – and for abortion, that can mean almost no restrictions at all.”
For those who mistakenly signed up for the pro-abortion lobby by accident, Students for Life of America (SFLA) has launched an effort to get signatures removed from these ballot initiatives at AbortionBallot.org. The website has specifics on how each state handles signature withdrawal requests.

“Abortion is all the Democrats can offer Americans and it’s not a replacement for a functional agenda or a safe and prosperous country, said Hawkins. “They’re overplaying their hand underestimating the resolve, creativity, and grit of the Pro-Life Generation. We know better than anyone, after 50 long years of fighting to overturn Roe, that this is a marathon, not a sprint.”
