Students for Life Action Presents Sen. Tommy Tuberville with a Champion of Life Award during a National Pro-Life Generation Lobby Day & Highlights FOUR Key Abortion Measures to Oppose

“The only way to think abortion isn’t federal is if you haven’t been paying attention to what the Biden Administration has been up to,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins. “Case in point, forcing abortion-related spending  into our military budget rather than investing in their families. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s fearless defense of our military’s proud traditions and invaluable families makes him a hero to the Pro-Life Generation.”

WASHINGTON D.C. (09-12-2023) – As part of a National Pro-Life Generation Lobby Day, Students for Life Action will present Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) with a Champion of Life Award for his courageous defense of military families. Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins observed: “There is no better example of the Biden-Harris Administration’s radical abortion support than the redirecting of scarce resources for our military men and women to facilitate an end to preborn family members. Radical abortion supporters were willing to delay promotions and personnel changes in their quest to push abortion where it has never been before. Sen. Tuberville has simply stood for the rule of law and for all those in our military family – born and preborn – in fighting to prevent another coercive push for abortion in our taxpayer funded programs. If pro-abortion Democrats dropped new abortion spending, this issue would be resolved.”

She continued: “Today’s lobby day also highlights four federal programs where the Biden Administration and their friends in the abortion lobby are pushing death by abortion into programs designed to help Americans. Using taxpayer dollars to pay to end the lives of people who might suffer rather than addressing the suffering with programs that actually work is the Biden Administration’s lazy approach to problem solving. We call on Congress to protect Life in law and in service.”

SFLAction is lobbying Congress to deny funds for abortion-related funding in programs designed to help Americans and people worldwide, including:

  • National Defense Authorization Act of 2024 H.R. 2670 – This version of the defense funding bill has a crucial amendment that explicitly blocks funding of the Biden’s administration’s new policy that reimburses travel costs for military personnel or their families seeking abortions.
  • Restore Safeguards on Mifepristone in Agriculture Appropriations Bill (H.R. 4368)  – The Biden Administration is desperately attempting to make dangerous chemical abortion drugs widely available, despite the fact that Biden’s push for No Test, Online Distribution of the deadly drugs exposes women to injury, infertility, death, and sex abusers, as well as risks our environment.  The Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2023 must protect language that enforces the safeguards that the FDA had formerly mandated on the use of mifepristone.

  • Pregnant Workers Fairness Act of 2022 (H.R. 1065 & S. 1486)  – The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act is intended to support women who are going through the unique experience of bringing new life into the world by protecting their employment. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recently proposed new regulations that would mandate accommodations like leave for abortion on demand, rather than focusing on a mother’s needs in the workplace. This proposed regulation attempts to force employers to accommodate abortion through a program designed to safeguard expectant mothers and preborn children.
  • President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)  – The current controversy surrounding PEPFAR, a program designed to help those suffering from AIDS/HIV represents another intrusion by abortion activists into what has been a bi-partisan success story. In 2003, President George W. Bush called for loving support of those suffering from AIDS/HIV globally with a unique program. Not content to allow the life-saving work to continue unmolested by abortion politics, activists have tried to include abortion vendors among those getting monies intended to save lives. Students for Life Action joins many in the pro-life movement, calling for life-saving funds to be invested with those who save lives across the board.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest, pro-life youth organization, managing a political and policy operation engaging Americans of all ages but with a special emphasis on the largest segment of voters — the Youth Vote. Together they provide political, legal, educational, and community support for women and children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA serves more than 1,400 groups on middle, high school, college, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with this generation targeted by the abortion lobby than any other pro-life operation in the world, each week reaching more than 4 million across social media platforms and averaging 1.3 million video views. SFLA has also launched multiple initiatives to lead and serve  the future of the pro-life movement including the Campaign for Abortion Free Cities, Standing With You, and the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement . Over more than 17 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA and the Pro-Life Generation into a nearly $20M organization, now preparing for an abortion-free America.
