Students for Life Action Rallying at Arizona Capital TODAY, Calling for Senate to VOTE AGAINST REPEAL

“Today’s vote has the lives of thousands upon thousands of preborn lives hanging in the balance, and we call upon the Arizona Senate Republicans to hold the line,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “The mark of a society with a conscience is how they protect the truly innocent – and we call upon Arizona’s Republican leaders to demonstrate theirs and vote AGAINST this repeal.”

PHOENIX, AZ (05-01-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) issued a statement today in advance of an expected Senate vote on HB2677 or SB1734 , either of which would repeal the current Arizona law that protects mothers and preborn babies from the moment of conception.

The Pro-Life Movement was stabbed in the back last week because of the actions of three GOP legislators who joined forces with the pro-abortion Democrats,” said SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins. “We will fight this kind of blueprint of betrayal from opportunistic Republicans who gladly embrace the pro-life community when fundraising, only to lose our number when it comes time to call for a vote.”

If the repeal vote on the House-passed bill, HB2677, is successful in the Senate, it would remove the recently upheld pro-life laws that protect the life of mother and baby after conception. If the Senate takes up their own version, SB1734, and it were to pass, it would then have to be voted on by the House.

Hawkins continued, “Arizona’s Senate could make history in the worst possible fashion – by becoming the first state led by Republicans to strip protections from already-protected preborn babies. That is, if Republican leadership and members go along with this Democrat-led repeal, which would allow for more than 9-in-10 abortions to continue when the limit at about four months of pregnancy (15-weeks) law takes its place.”

SFLAction engaged lawmakers in Arizona over the past month with an advocacy program of more than 91,000 calls, almost 490,000 text messages, and outreach at churches to encourage key GOP legislators to hold the line protecting life.

Regardless of the outcome, the real fight to defend preborn children in Arizona doesn’t end at Gov. Katie Hobbs’ desk but at the ballot box in November,” said Hawkins. “The extreme radicals in the Democrat Party are using abortion as little more than a get-out-the-vote tactic for Joe Biden’s flailing and aimless re-election bid.”

This November, Arizona voters will decide on the fate of pro-life protections in the state, when they vote for or against a ballot initiative campaign, which if successful, would force abortion far past when babies can feel pain or live outside the womb.

SFLAction supports multiple Decline to Sign” and “Just Vote No” campaigns across the country, pushing back against the intentionally confusing signature and ballot campaigns; a favored tool of pro-abortion groups as a Get-Out-The-Vote effort for a faltering Biden-Harris campaign.
