Students for Life Action says Abortion Extremism Could Become Law in Virginia, Should Proposed Expansion of Abortion Through All Nine Months Pass

“Virginia legislators risk turning the birthplace of America’s foundational documents and principles into a mass grave of personal liberty – the right to life being the most fundamental of them all – if they choose to proceed with this extreme pro-abortion amendment,” said SFLAction’s Chanel Jacobs. “Fast-tracking more abortion extremism that voters neither want nor have asked for, after watching the pro-abortion Democrats soundly beaten last week, is the last gasping attempt at pushing Kamala Harris’ agenda through at the state level. And Virginia’s leaders must reject this.”

RICHMOND, VA (11-14-2024) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) testified before the House Privileges and Elections (P&E) Committee at the Virginia State Capital in Richmond on Wednesday, Nov. 13, speaking out against a proposed amendment that would open the floodgates to abortion through all nine months in the cradle of America’s Constitutional Republic.

SFLAction Vice President of Government Affairs Chanel Jacobs said, “Virginia already has some of the most extreme abortion laws in the country, permitting the barbarism of abortion until the third trimester. This latest attempt by the extremists in the Democrat Party to enshrine limitless abortion into the State Constitution should likewise fail, like the recently defeated legislative Constitutional Amendments CACR 23 and CACR 24 in New Hampshire were defeated. If this Amendment is passed, it would make Virginia as extreme on abortion as Minnesota and California, but it would also make it difficult to change and undo.”

If signed into law, Virginia House Joint Resolution 1 would:

  • Attack parental consent laws in regard to abortion.
  • Stop critical abortion facility safety standards and informed consent from being put into place. eliminate parental knowledge or consent for minors undergoing invasive abortion procedures.
  • Prevent men from taking responsibility for their preborn children through child support.
  • Strip protections from minors for permanent sterilization and genital mutilation surgeries.

“Americans made their values clear with the defeat of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz: voters do not want more abortion extremism, and more taxpayer resources dedicated to killing babies,” said Jacobs. “They want real solutions to problems that are destroying their families – not more destruction of the family itself.”
