Students for Life Action Says “Unfortunate” Roll Call Vote on Measure to Ensure Chemical Abortion Pill Drug Traffickers Face Felonies Will Matter to Voters

“Students for Life Action is dismayed that so many Republicans turned their backs on the defense of the preborn in Oklahoma and voted against this critical legislation,” said Students for Life Action Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Prunier. “This roll call vote on HB 3031 sets the stage for our next battle to protect preborn life in Oklahoma.”

OKLAHOMA CITY, O.K. (5-24-2024)Students for Life Action (SFLAction) supported the recent roll call vote on HB 3013, which if signed into law would have criminalize the trafficking of Chemical Abortion Pills and created a felony charge for those who willingly deliver or possess those drugs with intent to cause an abortion. This legislation passed the House, but was blocked by the Senate, until an attempt in the final days of session was made by State Senator and Oklahoma Republican Party Chairman Nathan Dahm to bring it forward. Sadly, Oklahoma Senate leadership moved to table the legislation rather than taking it up. The final vote was 26 in favor of tabling and killing the bill and 13 against the legislation. Nine did not vote.

“Oklahoma’s elected officials are now on record voting against HB 3013 with this unfortunate outcome. We now move to a phase of advocacy that Students for Life Action is all too familiar with: voter outreach, education, text campaigns, and door knocking,” said Prunier.

In a recent op-ed, SFLAction Vice President Chanel Prunier and bill sponsor Rep. Jim Olsen explained how HB 3013 would combat the trafficking of Chemical Abortion Pills, which skirt Oklahoma’s already strong pro-life laws.

The most recent data from  pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute shows that Chemical Abortion Pills cause more than half of all intentional abortions. Their widespread use across the country is partly thanks to No Test, Online Distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills, which was set up because of Biden Administration’s abuse of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA).

These pills are responsible for causing four times the complications as surgical abortion, according to the abortion industry’s own sources. A study from the National Institute of Health (NIH) says that the risk of death associated with Chemical Abortion Pills is also ten times higher. Many other women experience injury, infertility, death, and exploitation by abusers because of these drugs.
