Students for Life Action Welcomes Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ Bid for White House 2024

“Governor DeSantis has proven himself to be a pro-life fighter in Florida by protecting infants showing the universal sign of life — a heartbeat,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins. “We need someone willing to take on the abortion lobby at the federal level and confront its mean and extreme supporters, who want abortion through all nine months, paid for by taxpayers.

“Still, the pro-life vote must be won. If you’re running for federal office, you need a federal plan to confront Joe Biden’s radical abortion legacy.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-24-2023) – As Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announces his candidacy for President on Twitter as part of a conversation with Elon Musk, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins said the Pro-Life Gen welcomes all pro-life champions to the 2024 bid for the White House. “The Pro-Life Gen wants their votes to result in lives saved. On behalf of the Pro-Life Generation, Students for Life Action prioritizes an early abortion model, as more than 9 in 10 abortions take place by 12 weeks — three months of pregnancy. Gov. Ron DeSantis showed that he understands that human rights crisis with his support in Florida of legislation protecting infants in the womb who have a heartbeat — the universal sign of life. In the days ahead, SFLAction will release our Presidential Candidate Survey along with pulse polls, looking at how registered Gen Z and Gen Y voters view the candidates, because with Roe gone, the sky is the limit on what we can accomplish to protect life in law and in service.”

In a YouGov poll sponsored by Students for Life of America, limiting abortion when there is a confirmed heartbeat has the same basic level of support as other limits, while saving more lives.

“The Pro-Life Gen finds it harsh to not at least try to protect as many people as possible, as soon as possible, in every pregnancy,” said Hawkins. “Nobody wins every vote, but we lose when we abandon the least of these because of political calculations.”

The report found: THE LEGISLATION DEEMED CONTROVERSIAL BY THE MEDIA IN RECENT HEADLINES IS OF INTEREST TO ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF THE YOUTH VOTE:

Looking at legislation that would limit abortion after a baby’s heartbeat has been confirmed, 38% said they could support a candidate who held that position, and 39% said they could support a candidate backing a bill to limit abortion at 15 weeks (almost 4 months of pregnancy). And more than 4 in 10 would consider supporting a candidate limiting abortion when a baby can live outside the womb.

In fact, a 2022 OnMessage poll found that 49% GOP and 31% DEM supported limits a heartbeat detection (often 6 weeks) vs. unlimited abortion until birth.

“A track record of protecting life in law is a plus for any candidate,” noted Hawkins.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,300 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
