“Releasing data about preborn baby deaths the day before Thanksgiving, a holiday for families, represents the grotesque judgment of those in the Biden-Harris Administration’s CDC. Sadly, the data represents another hand of liars’ poker as we can’t insist the abortionists lay their cards on the table and show proof,” said SFLAction’s Kristan Hawkins. “Without a National Abortion Reporting Law, we cannot track the deaths caused by intentional abortion from surgery or Chemical Abortion Pills, so we hope the Trump administration will call their bluff with thorough reporting. And yet, we hope what the CDC says today is true – that since the Dobbs’ decision, abortion is down in America.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (11-27-2024) – In what has become a shameful annual Thanksgiving tradition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new data on abortion in America. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins reacted.
“Despite the abortion lobby’s claim that abortion affects more than one-in-four women, we continue to see a lack of tracking, accountability, and reliable reporting data,” said Hawkins. “Without a National Abortion Reporting Law, the data we are seeing is at best liars’ poker from Planned Parenthood and the Guttmacher Institute; a calculated bluff from an abortion industry that profits off this bloody and barbaric practice.
“Where is the data for major abortion states like California or Maryland? Where are the numbers for the lives lost to Chemical Abortion Pills? We call on the U.S. Congress, the future Trump Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Trade Commission (FTC), and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) to investigate the illegal Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking occurring online from abortion pill pushers within and beyond our borders, violating U.S. laws. We need to know more about the long- and short-term impact of abortion on women, especially when you consider the billions lost to abortion through taxpayer resources wasted.
“And yet, here again, we see some evidence the pro-life laws save lives as since the historic Dobbs decision, imperfect reporting finds ‘the abortion rate decreased 3% … and the abortion ratio decreased 2%’ … while “from 2013 to 2022, the total number of reported abortions decreased 5% … (and) the abortion rate decreased 10%.’
“The report represents hope for women who won’t be traumatized by abortion as well as a chance at life for precious children whom we welcome into the world.”
Reporting at National Review, Dr. Michael New noted: “There were 15 states whose Heartbeat Acts and abortion (laws) were in effect for more than a month. Abortions fell in all 15 of these states. Conversely, abortion numbers increased in 26 of the other 31 states that reported abortion data to the CDC…Data from the Guttmacher Institute and the CDC have shown increases in the incidence of abortion since 2017. These newly released data from the CDC show that, at least in the short term, the Dobbs decision halted that upward trend.”
As SFLAction noted in last year’s data dump by the CDC, their website notes that abortion reporting data is “provided voluntarily … excluding California, the District of Columbia [DC], Maryland, and New Hampshire” who don’t report or track abortion within their borders.

Abortions caused by Chemical Abortion Pills aren’t tracked, so the true number could be significantly higher than what the CDC reports. These drugs are the most ubiquitous method of ending preborn lives in America, making more than 60% of all abortions, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute. For the millions of preborn babies who will be lost to these drugs, millions of women will also risk exposure to injury, infertility, death, and abusers.

In addition to state and federal legislative work, Students for Life of America (SFLA) previously filed four citizen petitions with the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) and called on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to track the forever chemicals of Chemical Abortion Pills in the water supply.
Additionally, SFLAction recently released recommendations for President-elect Trump to take executive action during his first 100 days – both against Chemical Abortion Pills and the nefarious influence of the abortion industry in Washington, D.C.
