Last fall, we penned an article “Of Course The Democrats Hated Roe – It Didn’t Go Far Enough.” It was written in a spirit of radical transparency about cold hard facts: all the nay-saying and hemming-and-hawing in the world that the put on display about abortion is merely theater and gamesmanship.
The Democrats LOVE abortion – they’re making it the cornerstone of their re-election strategy in 2024. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have made plenty of campaign stops focused exclusively on that issue. It was the focal point of Biden’s 2024 State of the Union Speech before Congress.
And just like we explained how Roe was too moderate for the Democrats, so are the checks and balances of the Senate, which are too troublesome for their radical, pro-abortion agenda.
Let’s be perfectly clear: The Democrats don’t care about norms or institutions, or the sacred Democracy they purport to love or protect, despite claims to the contrary. One only needs to look at the naked corruption on display with the targeted prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
We’d be remiss if we didn’t go back to where much of this began: the immortal actions of former Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, who in 2013 invoked “the nuclear option” by “eliminating the use of the filibuster on all presidential nominees except those to the U.S. Supreme Court” according to a 2013 article by Politico.
Sen. Mitch McConnell imparted to them at the time: “You’ll regret this, and you may regret it a lot sooner than you think.”
The lesson, evidently, wasn’t learned after Former President Donald Trump used his majorities well during his term as President, securing countless Federal judicial appointments and three Supreme Court Justices.
Now, the Democrats are setting their sights on an old target, but because of new events: the filibuster. With the departure of Kyrsten Sinema, and the potential for Democrats to hold the Senate or even gain seats in the November election, the fate of the filibuster is unclear.
According to reporting from Fox News, “The Senate’s filibuster could be at risk if Democrats retain the majority after the 2024 elections, with the exit of two staunch defenders of the tool in Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz.
Both Manchin and Sinema announced they would not be seeking re-election.”
Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona made it abundantly clear: he wants to get rid of the filibuster to codify Roe into law. But as we’ve said before, no they don’t – they want MUCH MORE.
The Democrats signature healthcare law, the Women’s Health Protection Act, would allow abortions to be conducted up until birth nationwide, without any ability for the states to push back, demanding taxpayer funding, and trampling on the conscience rights of medical professionals.
When you add that measure to the Democrats repeated opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, their policy allows even infanticide for those born during botched abortions.
It’s extreme beyond words. And yet, it’s totally par for the course for a party that will do and say anything to get power, to make limitless abortion the law of the land.
We all remember the calls to pack the Supreme Court both before and after Roe was overturned.
Who knows what the tactic de jour will be tomorrow? Hard to say – but the one consistent “X” factor remains: if it gets the Democrats more power, they will reach for it every single time.
And just like Sen. McConnell said, as they pushed the big red button: “You’ll regret this, and you may regret it a lot sooner than you think.”
