Almost 96% also Call for a Strong, Proactive Federal Response to Abortion

WASHINGTON D.C. (01-20-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins announced today the winner of the 2024 National Pro-Life Summit straw poll, from the sold-out event.
The full results for President, in order of preference, are:
- Donald Trump: 50.1%
- Ron DeSantis: 34.8%
- Nikki Haley: 9.3%
- Other: 5.8%
Looking at Vice Presidential options, the choices made were:
- Mike Pence – 36.1%
- Vivek Ramaswamy – 13.7%
- Ron DeSantis – 11.1%
- Tucker Carlson – 10.3%
- Ted Cruz – 5.1%
- Nikki Haley – 4.1%
- Tim Scott – 3.8%
- Other – 3.3%
- Kristi Noem – 3.2%
- Marco Rubio – 2.9%
- Kari Lake – 1.8%
- Sarah Huckabee Sanders – 1.5%
- Marjorie Taylor Greene – 1.0%
- Elise Stefanik – 0.9%
- Kim Reynolds – 0.6%
- Mike Pompeo – 0.4%
- Byron Donalds – 0.2%
Asked: I expect my federal elected officials to lawfully protect human life, 95.4% chose “Proactively to use appointments, regulations, speeches, and the legal process to protect life in law and in service as part of a vibrant agenda. In addition, almost 91% wanted the politicians they vote for to have plans for how to protect life.
“The Pro-Life Gen wants the most pro-life administration in American history back again. Mere rhetoric isn’t going to impress the pro-life movement anymore. Action is what matters, and we are looking for a pro-life champion,” said Hawkins. “But even beyond the Pro-Life Generation, we are seeing the clearest indicators yet that the Youth Vote is up for grabs in this election cycle. Among what is soon to become the largest voting bloc in America – more than 1/3 – there’s a desire for more pro-life solutions to the human rights issue of our day. The limitless abortion extremism pushed by Joe Biden’s Democrat Party isn’t the winner they think it is.”
For the fifth year in a row, Students for Life of America’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, has released polling data that highlights a growing fissure between the Youth Vote and the increasingly extreme pro-abortion Democratic Party. This year’s poll with YouGov shows:
- Not only do more than six in 10 want limits on abortion, 37% supported protections at a confirmed fetal heartbeat or better.
- 31% of youth voters said they would be more willing to accept limits on abortion if more help for pregnant and parenting families was available.
- Only nine percent supported the Democratic Party’s radical agenda of abortion through all nine months without limits, up to and including allowing infanticide — the purposeful death of a baby born during a botched abortion.
- More than nine in 10 support offering care to an infant who survives a botched abortion – 72% support emergency measures including calling 911 with 19% desiring care, not including 911. Mirroring the same level of radical support as for the Democratic Party’s abortion views, only 9% picked: “Nothing should be done since the mother was trying to have an abortion done.”

“The abortion industrial complex has hijacked the Democrat Party, and they are running the show,” said Hawkins. “’Safe, legal, and rare’ has given way to ‘without exception and without apology.’ Nothing makes that clearer than their embrace of the Women’s Health Protection Act — better called the Women’s Health Endangerment Act – which would completely remove any state protections for the preborn. Likewise, even the instance of a child being born alive after a failed abortion is egregious to them; House Democrats voted against the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.”
