Students for Life Action Celebrates TWO Wins in Successful Kansas Primary Races

“Students for Life Action has fought to change Kansas from an abortion tourism hotspot into a state where LIFE is protected in law, from conception to natural death.  Last night, we took a big step forward with primary wins for two pro-life champions,” said SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs. “The Pro-Life Generation looks forward to working with these new pro-life leaders after their general election wins in November.”

TOPEKA, KS (08-06-2024) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrated the election of two pro-life candidates and incumbents after the results last nights senate and house primary races in Kansas were announced. SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs Chanel Jacobs said, “Committing intentional abortion has no place in our society, and every life from conception onward deserves protection and respect. That’s what last night’s victory was about – strengthening the bench of pro-life champions we can work with in the state capitol to get life-saving legislation signed into law. We are fighting for bills like the Students for Life Action-sponsored Abortion Prevention Act (SB286), ensuring that abortion is unthinkable and impossible in Kansas.”

SFLAction has long been engaged in Kansas, in door knocking and other educational efforts. In 2023, a student volunteer was assaulted during door knocking. And yet, volunteers continue to work in the state.

In this cycle, SFLAction sent 24,248 texts and made 34,010 calls in targeted districts to educate voters about the records of candidates. Wins in those districts include:

Senate District 34: Rep. Michael Murphy

  • A candidate for an open seat for State Senate, Rep. Murphy sponsored legislation for SFLAction. He was personally endorsed by SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins.

House District 77: Rep. Kristey Williams

  • Seeking re-election, Rep. Williams has consistently voted pro-life and returned the SFLAction survey as 100% pro-life.

In 2023 and 2024, leading up to the primary, SFLAction has supported several pieces of pro-life legislation in Kansas and held numerous Lobby Days and education outreach efforts to reach Kansas voters, including:

  • Pushing for years to get Senate Bill 286, SFLAction’s Life At Conception Actand its House companion bill HB 2492 passed and signed into law, which would end abortion and prevent chemical abortions in Kansas. In support of this effort, in 2023, SFLAction staff and students knocked on more than 400 doors and also led a Lobby Day at the Kansas Capitol, meeting with legislators to encourage them to support the bill.

Across the country, SFLAction is engaging in multiple “Decline to Sign” and “Just Vote No” campaigns, empowering students and volunteers with resources and materials to push back against the intentionally confusing signature and ballot campaigns, which are favored tool of pro-abortion groups for their Get-Out-The-Vote effort on behalf of a desperate Kamala Harris campaign.
