GUEST POST: Thanks to the Dobbs decision, countless of babies, mothers, and families have been saved from the violence of the abortion industry. However, the Pro-Life fight is far from over across America.
Planned Parenthood and “Floridians Protecting Freedom Inc.” have been hard at work in Florida to undermine the recent legislative victories to defend life in the Sunshine State, by pushing a citizens’ petition initiative to place a proposed amendment to the Florida Constitution on the 2024 general election ballot.
If the proposed “amendment” is approved by 60% or more of voters, then it would write into law an explicit “constitutional right” to abortion, even up until the moment of birth. Additionally, the Florida legislature and Governor would be prohibited from passing limits or restrictions on abortion and make all preexisting Pro-Life legislation invalid.
Limitless abortion could come to Florida, far exceeding the horrors that even Roe allowed when it was the law of the land.
Over the past few months, staff with Students for Life Action (SFLAction) have seen many people outside of gas-stations, grocery stores, shopping malls, or even on our college campuses, asking anyone and everyone walking by if they would “sign this petition to help with women’s health in Florida”.
The framing is false and disgraceful.
Abortion causes unbelievable harm to mothers, including mental and physical health, to say nothing about the preborn children that it kills.
Sadly, the political panhandlers from “Floridians Protecting Freedom Inc.” seem to have met the 891,523 statewide signature requirements needed to appear on the November 2024 ballot.
But there’s hope – the youth vote and the Pro-Life Generation aren’t buying what the pro-abortion extremists are selling.
Our most recent poll with Students for life of America’s The Demetree institute for pro-life advancement/You Gov found:
- More than 6 out of 10 want abortion limits (65%) and 3 out of 4 (75%) want limits after viability.
- 37% supported heartbeat protections, while 15% would limit it to 3 months.
- 9 in 10 Youth Voters Supported Health and Safety Measures to save the Life of the mother, who may be experiencing an ectopic pregnancy – with 47% saying its “extremely important.”
- 4 in 10 (40%) wanted to support political candidates who support abortion limits with 16% wanting to support someone fighting “strongly in favor of abortion restriction.”
- More than 3 in 10 said they would be more willing to accept limits on abortion IF there were more services.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the Florida Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the proposed constitutional amendment set to appear on the November 2024 General Election ballot. And gathered outside, students, staff and volunteers from, Florida Voice for the Unborn, Priests for Life, Liberty Counsel, Family for LIFE, Florida Preborn Rescue, Suncoast Catholics, Jacksonville for Life, and SFLAction will come together and lead a grassroots Pro-Life rally and press conference on the Florida Supreme Court steps.
The pro-abortion industry and their corporate donors might have the signatures they need to put abortion back on the ballot – but we are giving a voice to the voiceless, and we will fight every step until election day to save preborn lives and ensure Florida remains a strong, Pro-Life state.
Details for the February 7th Supreme Court rally and Lobby Day can be found HERE.
