Students and volunteers reached nearly 4,000 homes, held hundreds of voter conversations, and reported persuading many voters to support pro-life candidates ahead of November.

“Our students are showing up, putting on ponchos when it rains, and having conversations that can move someone from sitting out the election to voting pro-life first. In Iowa and North Carolina, we are building on years of grassroots work to turn pro-life convictions into action at the ballot box,” said SFLAction Vice President Lane Koch.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (10-08-2026) — Students for Life Action (SFLAction) students and volunteers took our pro-life message directly to voters in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and Des Moines, Iowa, during our October 3-4 door-knocking deployments, engaging communities about what is at stake for preborn children this November.

Across the two deployments, our field teams reported knocking nearly 4,000 doors, holding hundreds of conversations, identifying pro-life voters, and persuading voters to support pro-life candidates.

“Every conversation at the door is an opportunity to remind voters that preborn children deserve a voice in this election,” said Students for Life Action Vice President Lane Koch.

Students demonstrated their willingness to put in the work at the ballot box, even when that meant knocking on doors for the first time or walking through a weekend of rain.

Rocky Mount, North Carolina

Our Rocky Mount team knocked targeted doors in support of pro-life candidate Laurie Buckhout, who is challenging radical pro-abortion Democrat Rep. Don Davis in North Carolina’s 1st Congressional District, in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Buckhout opposes taxpayer funding for abortion vendors like Planned Parenthood and supports enforcing the “Comstock Act” against the interstate trafficking of chemical abortion pills, according to her 2026 candidate questionnaire. By contrast, in January 2025, Davis voted against the “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act”, which requires medical professionals to provide appropriate care to babies born alive after an attempted abortion and ensure they are transported to a hospital.

This deployment continues years of our grassroots involvement in North Carolina. During the 2024 election cycle, our volunteers and team members knocked on doors and educated voters in multiple state legislative districts and the 1st Congressional District.

Earlier this year, we knocked on hundreds of doors and sent 55,000 text messages to educate voters about state Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger’s record after previously calling on Berger to advance legislation defunding Planned Parenthood and other abortion vendors that had stalled in the Senate. His primary opponent, Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page, signed SFLAction’s Pro-Life Candidate Pledge and committed to supporting pro-life policies. SFLAction supported Sam Page’s primary challenge through voter education and grassroots deployments. Page ultimately defeated Berger by just 23 votes.

Buckhout and Davis are competing again after their 2024 contest in a redrawn district, underscoring the importance of voter education and turnout.

SFLA Carolinas Campus Formation Coordinator Savannah O’Brien described students from two schools joining the deployment, all of whom were knocking on doors for the first time. Rain fell throughout the weekend, but the students put on ponchos and persevered.

Several voters told students they loved Buckhout and were excited to support her.

One volunteer said, “I love door knocking because it is a great way to educate people about abortion and a great way to serve God!” Another added, “I love door knocking because it is a great way to meet other pro-lifers!”

Des Moines, Iowa

Our Iowa team knocked team reported persuading multiple voters to support pro-life candidate Ashley Hinson, the Republican running against pro-abortion Democrat Josh Turek for U.S. Senate in Iowa.

Hinson reintroduced the “Pregnant Students’ Rights Act,” SFLAction’s original legislation requiring colleges to inform pregnant students about available resources and protections so they can continue their education while choosing Life. By contrast, Turek wrote and sponsored legislation to repeal Iowa’s Heartbeat Protection Law and wants to restore Roe v. Wade nationwide, undoing protections for preborn children that students worked hard to advance.

Our work in Iowa stretches back years. In 2022, an SFLAction deployment knocked on more than 1,100 doors on its first day while educating voters about candidates’ abortion positions.

SFLAction also mobilized students and volunteers ahead of Iowa’s 2023 special legislative session to engage lawmakers on protections for preborn children. Our advocacy included lobbying, door knocking, and testimony in support of the Heartbeat Protection Law, which became enforceable in 2024 following court challenges.

In 2026, we continued working on legislation addressing chemical abortion pills. The SFLAction-championed “Abortion-Inducing Drugs Informed Consent Act,” HF 2788, passed both legislative chambers and was signed by Gov. Kim Reynolds on May 19.

SFLA Midwest Regional Coordinator Connor Nordwald joined participating students from Iowa State University, Ames High School, Kansas State University, and Joliet Community College. Most had never knocked on doors before, and many described the deployment as fun and positive.

“I didn’t know what to expect this weekend because I had never been door knocking before, but I really had a great time making a difference and meeting so many great activists from around the Midwest!” said Ashley Koenigs, a student at Iowa State University.

Students met a man who said he had worked at a local pregnancy center but was considering sitting out the election because he believed Republicans had become less committed to protecting preborn children. After discussing the importance of protecting and strengthening Iowa’s pro-life laws, students convinced him to vote.

The Pro-Life Generation Is Taking Action

These deployments are part of our broader nationwide grassroots campaign ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. We are organizing more than 30 door-knocking deployments across 16 states this year.

Since our launch, students and volunteers have knocked on more than 570,000 doors in key election districts nationwide while advancing protections for preborn children.

With Election Day approaching, we will continue meeting voters on campuses, in communities, and one doorstep at a time.
