Florida Started the Year on a Strong Note & Pro-Life Legislation is at the Heart of it all

As a New York transplant in Florida myself, there’s one thing we don’t want to see in the Sunshine State – and that’s more of New York’s economic and social policies that hurt families from their budgets to their kitchen table conversations on cultural divides such as abortion.

This year, however, Florida is off on a strong note and is keeping woke policies out of schools, households, and communities by cutting out the abortion lobby and other bad actors from our way of life.

In a recent example of this, Florida’s legal system moved to vacate an injunction against a Florida law prohibiting state funds from going to the mega abortion vendor Planned Parenthood. Dripping with blood money, Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report showed the entity made more than $1.7 billion, up from $1.6 billion in 2019-2020, and with $633.4 million coming from taxpayers.

Clearly, Planned Parenthood, who profits off killing preborn children, is in no need of any funding. And thankfully, Florida’s legal leaders saw right through their deceitful tactics.

While Florida state legislators previously passed HB 1411 to defund abortion vendors such as Planned Parenthood, the U.S. District Court in Tallahassee enjoined the law in a case using Roe v. Wade as a catalyst, but with the reversal of Roe last year, the injunction was no longer supported.

With a legal path forward for defunding Planned Parenthood in a Post-Roe America, the state’s Attorney General said, “Now that the case at the center of the court’s reasoning has been overturned, we are petitioning the court to vacate the court’s injunction and allow the will of our state’s legislative body and the people who elected them to take effect.”

Along with the Floridian Pro-Life Generation, I am grateful that our elected officials affirmed the decision that confirmed there’s no invisible ink penning the right for an abortion in our Constitution, and abortion vendors certainly shouldn’t be raking in absurd amounts of cash because of faulty policies. Instead, Florida legislators and members of the judicial system have set a clear precedent that laws passed by elected officials need to reflect what Floridians want – and that’s not a blank check to the puppet masters at Planned Parenthood.

Also of note, the legislative session in Florida just kicked off with Heartbeat legislation that gives the state the opportunity to revoke its reputation as an abortion tourism destination. We should be known for our incredible beaches and blissful way of life, not a culture of death that encourages people to come here to commit abortion.

Our current laws fail to protect more than 90% of future Floridians, and passing the Heartbeat bill will undoubtedly be a step in the right direction to saving babies from the violence of abortion. In Florida, we have a pro-life majority and the opportunity to pave the way in life-saving legislation.

The policies made in this state without question influence others around the nation, and we ought to be bold for life while our policy platform is in the spotlight. Cutting out funds for Planned Parenthood and working on protecting humans with beating hearts are all exciting steps forward for our state.

With strong leadership and the legal path forward in a post-Roe America, Florida can prevail as a pillar in passing life-saving legislation and ditching our current ranking as fifth highest for abortions. Addressing abortion vendors and passing pro-life legislation are just a starting point with many opportunities for the state to continue growing like ending the distribution of Chemical Abortion Pills supporting pregnancy resource centers, and many other vital issues areas.

It’s time for Florida to show the nation that our way of life is creating a culture of life.
