Students for Life Action Applauds Election of Four Pro-Life Leaders in North Carolina Primary Races

“The voters of North Carolina know that defending preborn life is the human rights issue of our era,” said Chanel Prunier, VP of Political Affairs. “Those who say that running on the defense of preborn life is a losing position were proven wrong yet again tonight, with the election of a number of pro-life champions.”

RALEIGH, N.C. (03-06-2024) Students for Life Action (SFLAction) celebrates the election of four pro-life leaders in North Carolina, after last night’s State House and Senate primary races.

Students for Life Action had been active in six legislative districts educating voters regarding which candidates returned the Students for Life Action Candidate Survey and which did not.

Numerous successful candidates pledged to vote 100% pro-life, including:

  • Ralph Carter, House District 48
  • Jonathan Almond, House District 73
  • Blair Eddins, House District 94
  • Brian Echevarria, House District 82

“We are thrilled to see that when voters are presented information about which candidates will vote pro-life, they choose those individuals who plan to be pro-life leaders in the legislature, rather than those who remain silent,” said Prunier. “Our work to save preborn babies needs fearless pro-life champions in North Carolina to defend life and advance further protections for preborn babies. We stand ready to help the North Carolina legislature advance strong pro-life protections such as the SFLA-inspired HB 533 Human Life Protection Act, that would end the predatory abortion industry in North Carolina.”

SFLAction was on the ground engaging in voter education efforts knocking on doors and distributing materials to educate potential voters.

Leading up to the election, our organization sent 52,554 text messages, made 25,761 phone calls, and knocked 1,052 doors. In Brian Echevarria’s district, the margin of victory was a mere 171 votes out of over 9,000 cast, showing the impact that a strong grassroots campaign in support of pro-life champions can have.

While the state of North Carolina recently enacted protections for preborn babies beginning at 12 weeks over the veto of the state’s governor, Students for Life Action’s legislative priority in the state continues to be passage of HB 533, the Human Life Protection Act, and Tuesday night’s results bring the state closer to passage of legislation to end the violence of abortion in the state.
