Students for Life Action: Legislators to be Held Accountable for Cruel, Late-Term Abortion Vote in Maine

“Ending an innocent child’s life when they are fully capable of surviving outside of the womb is nothing less than barbaric, yet that is exactly what Maine legislators are pushing for with a so called ‘right’ to late-term abortion,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs & Operations. “The Pro-Life Generation will continue to call on Maine legislators to protect life in law and service while holding those in favor of the late-term abortion legislation responsible.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (06-28-2023) – Since Students for Life Action (SFLAction) notified its grassroots base that Maine is on the verge of becoming a haven for abortionists who kill babies just days, hours, or even minutes before they are set to be born, 67,613 personal text messages have been sent to voters and more than 4,500 emails have been generated to state legislators to defend life in law.

The Late-Term Abortion Legalization Act, LD 1619, is hastily being pushed through the state legislature and SFLAction activists have spoken out against this reckless measure. “If this bill becomes law, legislators will be held responsible by their constituents for making Maine’s abortion limits as radical as New York and Massachusetts,” added Curtis.

The swing state and 2024 target of SFLAction recently saw more than 800 pro-life activists at the capital opposing this legislation. SFLAction has been working with pro-life champions such as Rep. Laurel Libby and groups such as Speak Up for Life Maine to educate voters on the cruel realities of this bill.

LD 1619 would allow fully developed, pain-capable babies to be aborted up to the moment of birth. Governor Mills, who has agreed to sign if it makes it to her desk, will ensure there is no future for children in Maine should she allow this reversal of abortion limits to take place.
