“Liberal activists on the court blocked a commonsense heartbeat protection bill, but what Iowans really need is Protection at Conception. We must work towards this measure, early protections must replace Iowa’s extreme 20-week abortion limit. This week our team will be present in Iowa to remind leaders that the most vulnerable need our voice,” said SFLAction’s Dustin Curtis.

Des Moines, IA (07-11-2023) – Students for Life Action (SFLAction) commended Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for calling the legislature back into a special session to consider Heartbeat Abortion Prevention legislation despite the organization’s goal of a Life at Conception Act. “Protecting babies when a heartbeat – a clear sign of life – is detected is a bare minimum standard, and we call on legislators to pass Protection at Conception legislation to end abortion entirely,” Curtis added.
“I believe the pro-life movement is the most important human rights cause of our time,” Governor Reynolds shared in her statement. SFLAction applauds Governor Reynolds’ commitment and hopes she will use her Republican super majorities to pass strong pro-life legislation, like Students for Life Action’s legislation to end dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills.
Today, as the House Health and Human Services Committee plans to host a public hearing on the heartbeat bill that left the state Supreme Court in a deadlock, Planned Parenthood’s pro-abortion protestors will reportedly be present. On Tuesday morning, SFLAction’s pro-life activists will gather at the capital to join Iowans for Freedom among other groups to pray for the future of preborn Iowans. Some SFLAction activists will join in a counterprotest and testimony opportunity as schedules allow.
Active in all 50 states, SFLAction has been working throughout the legislative session to educate voters and elected officials on the realities of abortion and introduce meaningful legislation to make abortion unthinkable and unavailable. Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,300 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
