Gov. Ron DeSantis Stands Up for the Preborn, Speaks at “Vote No on Amendment 4” Event

The pro-life movement has been pounding the pavement in Florida to fight Amendment 4, and Gov. Ron DeSantis helped us out.

This month, Students for Life of America (SFLA) Florida and Puerto Rico Coordinator Kristen Marais, Strategic Partnerships Advisor Andy Secola, and students from the University of South Florida, Jesuit High School, and the University of Tampa came out to hear DeSantis speak out against Amendment 4 at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida.

Five hundred people filled Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida, including local solid voices for the pro-life movement, priests, family friends, teachers, and classmates. Even the well-known Kaitlyn Bennet and her family, along with her media company, Liberty Hangout, were in attendance.

The hard work of SFLA and Students for Life Action didn’t go unnoticed. Charbel Barakat, the announcer for DeSantis, thanked the pro-life movement and SFLA and Marais for their tireless work.

It’s no secret the work the governor is doing is being noticed nationwide, and we’re thankful he’s getting noticed for standing up for the preborn in his state.

The proposed amendment is only thirty-four words, but it would turn the state of Florida upside down. The ballot language says:

“No law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider. This amendment does not change the legislature constitution to require notification to a parent of guardian before a minor has an abortion.” (Paid Political Advertisement Paid for by Vote No On 4 Florida, 1103 Hays Street, Tallahassee, Fl 32301)

“If you read the ballot language, it reads someone innocuous,” said DeSantis during a fireside interview. Because there are loopholes in this that would effectively allow green light abortions until the moment of birth.”

DeSantis also reminded the audience: “You could have taxpayer-funded abortions in the state of Florida if this passes.”

He then transitioned to highlight how this is a targeted issue from the abortion radical Left.

“They could have proposed an amendment that was much narrower, limited to first-trimester chemical abortions, didn’t go after parents’ rights,” he explained. “That would have been much more difficult for us to defeat. This shows that they can’t contain themselves. They have to go for the whole ‘kit and kaboodle’ because this is what they believe. They reject the idea that there should be any protections for life.”

When asked to address what DeSantis has done to support women with unplanned crisis pregnancies, the governor replied, “We made the law permanent in Florida that there is no tax on any baby items such as diapers, wipes, formula, and bottles is all tax-free.”

He went on to explain the campaign started by First Lady Casey DeSantis called “HOPE Florida,” which connects Americans to opportunities near them, such as churches, charities, good businesses, individuals, and more. With this effort, DeSantis helped over thirty thousand people leave government assistance.

After addressing many remarks on DeSantis’s position on hot-topic election issues, SFLA attended a VIP roundtable with DeSantis and other supporters, where we met DeSantis and posed for a picture.

We are so thankful for Governor Ron DeSantis’s support in the effort to “Vote NO on Amendment 4” this November. We look forward to many more events in the future as we stand for life together.
