How the GOP Is Supporting Pregnancy Centers After Attacks from the Mean and Extreme Abortion Lobby

Did you know that a recent report by the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC) indicated that pro-life groups faced 22 times more violence than pro-abortion organizations since the Dobbs decision was leaked?

Since the rightful reversal of Roe v. Wade, the pro-life movement has experienced far too much violence by the extreme abortion lobby. In fact, pregnancy resource centers (PRCs) have endured physical attacks, as well as verbal attacks as PRCs are wrongfully defamed for merely affirming life and supporting women.

Fighting back against these attacks on PRCs, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) commended the efforts of U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) and his colleagues for introducing the Pregnancy Center Security Act.

In January, SFLAction staff met with Senator Risch’s team and spoke about this drafted legislation among other pressing issues in the fight to protect the preborn. SFLAction offered opinions and feedback on the legislation and was proud to officially endorse the bill.

If passed, the Pregnancy Center Security Act would “enhance security for pro-life pregnancy centers and to protect staff and patients from potential violence and extremism and establish a grant program for pregnancy-help organizations to implement security upgrades, including the installation of security cameras and systems.”

In his press release, Senator Risch stated, “Under the Biden administration, the fight to protect life has become increasingly dangerous. Pro-life pregnancy centers across the nation, which provide vital resources for women, the unborn, and our communities, have become targets for violent attacks. To ensure these life-saving centers can continue to safely operate, the Pregnancy Center Security Act would create a grant program to enable security upgrades.”

Senator Risch is right on the money when it comes to the treatment of PRCs under the Biden Administration, but there is a group reaping many benefits through the current presidency: Planned Parenthood.

SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins said, “There are 12 pregnancy resource centers for every abortion facility in any city. Each of those pregnancy centers offer FREE life-affirming resources to women and families in need, while the abortion industry receives more than $1.7 billion in revenue every year. It is time we started investing into healthcare centers that save lives, not end them.”

Hawkins addressed the work of PRCs that far outweighs the travesties committed by abortion vendors, but the federal government continues funding their death model.

“Pregnancy centers are what give women hope, and Senator Risch’s legislation will help further that hope to reach more women and families instead of investing in Planned Parenthood,” Hawkins added.

Reporting on the announcement of the bill, Fox News wrote “Pro-life crisis pregnancy centers have endured vandalism and attacks at the hands of ravenous protesters angered by the overturn of Roe v. Wade and the events leading up to it. These centers have been villainized by Democrats, but mothers who’ve been helped by them say nothing could be further from the truth.”

SFLAction has seen women helped and babies saved thanks to the work of PRCs which serve vulnerable women in the community free of charge. We’re thankful for Senator Risch’s leadership on this bill and look forward to the Senate taking up the legislation.
