Preborn Infants Should not be at Risk from America’s Defense Policy; Keep Abortion out of Defense Spending, says Students for Life Action

“Only the Biden Administration seems to believe that eliminating the families of our fighting men and women is a good idea. Those who have served our country deserve support, not more death by abortion,” says Students for Life Action’s Savanna Deretich. “Our military is the greatest the world has ever known. It should focus on its core mission of defending the United States, and not advance military policies that directly or indirectly result in the destruction of innocent life in the womb.”

MEDIA NOTE: Students for Life Action will score votes on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024 , calling for YES votes on an amendment offered Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and an amendment offered by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (07-11-2023) – Students for Life Action issued a key vote alert for amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2024, calling for an end to prioritized spending for abortion in our military budget.

In a scoring letter, Savanna DeretichGovernment Affairs Coordinator for Students for Life Action, called on members of the U.S. House to vote YES on an amendment offered Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and an amendment offered by Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2024. SFLA will be scoring votes on these, and potentially other amendments related to life issues in the NDAA. These votes will be a part of our Pro-Life Generation Congressional Scorecard that will be shared with our activists in all 50 states and the pro-life community.”

Deretich continued:  “As the House Rules Committee website explained, Rep. Gaetz’s amendment ‘prohibits delaying basing decisions based on state abortion regulations,’ and Rep, Jackson’s amendment ‘prohibits the Secretary of Defense from paying for or reimbursing expenses relating to abortion services.’

“Our military is the greatest the world has ever known. It should focus on its core mission of defending the United States, and not advance military policies that directly or indirectly result in the destruction of innocent life in the womb. Taxpayer dollars should be used to support our military, and never to advance abortion. The Pro-Life Generation supports these commonsense amendments that protect life. As SFLA reported in a YouGov poll conducted for the Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, registered Gen Z and Gen Y voters – like most Americans – don’t want their taxpayer dollars used to support abortion.”

SFLAction has been vocal in calling for life-affirming healthcare for our nation’s servicemen and women.

Students for Life Action (SFLAction), a 501c4, along with its 501c3 sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), make up the nation’s largest pro-life youth organization and a political and policy operation engaging people of all ages. Together they work to end abortion — the human rights issue of our day — and provide political, legal, and community support for women and their children, born and preborn. Headquartered in Fredericksburg, VA, SFLA has more than 1,300 groups on middle, high school, college, university, medical, and law school campuses in all 50 states. SFLA creates strategy, policy, and programming to connect those most targeted for abortion with people ready to help and builds a framework for political engagement on their behalf. SFLA and SFLAction have more conversations with those most targeted by the abortion industry than any other pro-life outreach in the world, reaching more than 2 million people across social media platforms each week and engaging in approximately 100,000 digital conversations per month. Over more than 16 years, President Kristan Hawkins has grown SFLAction/SFLA into an $18 million organization preparing for a Post-Roe America.
