After More than 200,000 Points of Voter Outreach, SFLAction Successful in Shutting Down Governor Sununu’s Late-Term Abortion Bill in New Hampshire

“Life is a winning issue,” said Dustin Curtis, SFLAction Vice President of Political Affairs & Operations. “Championing laws that prevent abortions when babies have beating hearts in the minimum standard for GOP leaders. The Pro-Life Generation won’t accept anything less than that, and we especially won’t accept a Governor’s radical quest to gut a Late-Term Abortion Prevention bill and subject the most innocent and vulnerable in our society to the violence of abortion.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (04-14-2023) – As the only national pro-life group on the ground, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) took another win this week for life in New Hampshire by successfully quashing House Bill 224 by a 14-10 Senate vote. The action allows New Hampshire’s Fetal Life Protection Act to remain in place. The vote occurred after SFLAction sent 124,264 personal text messages, 1,742 emails, and made 97,520 phone calls to legislators urging them to oppose Governor Chris Sununu’s futile attempt to gut the state’s late-term abortion prevention bill and further the violence of abortion — well beyond the point of viability.

In addition to testifying, and this extensive voter contact program, the group worked with Representative Dave Testerman (Merrimack District 3) to introduce SFLAction-inspired legislation, House Bill 591-FN, that protects the preborn when a heartbeat is detected. As seen in Florida and Nebraska this week, the time is now to pass early protections for the preborn and go beyond weak laws that fail to prevent the majority of elective abortions.

“The future for the preborn is looking brighter in New Hampshire,” added Curtis. “Defeating Governor Sununu’s bill yet again was a step in the right direction, and now we urge leaders to get Rep. Testerman’s Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act brought forward.”

While not the first time SFLAction defeated pro-abortion attempts in the legislature led by Gov. Sununu, the major grassroots mobilizer has indicated no plans to let off the pressure of passing life-saving laws and exposing leaders who secretly back late-term abortion efforts.

Polling conducted by SFLA’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement found that less than 2 out of 10 Millennials want unlimited abortion through all 9 months with nearly half supporting the prohibition of abortions after a heartbeat is detected by a margin of 47% to 38%.

The majority of Americans reject the cruelness of late-term abortion and call for higher standards to protect the preborn, including those in the Granite State.

As noted by The Washington Post, SFLAction is “one of the largest antiabortion organizations in the country,” and has long been preparing legislatively for a Post-Roe America. Fox News recognizes SFLAction “has already been pushing state legislatures” and our growing influence has even reached pro-abortion lead researcher Mary Ziegler who noted the power of our mobilization in The Atlantic.
