“Just for the record: Life is Winning in America,” Says SFLAction President After 12-Week Abortion Prevention Amendment Adopted by Nebraska Legislature

Fewer than 400 Votes Determined Member who Casted Deciding Vote

“A 12-week bill wasn’t what we wanted, or should have gotten, but we’ll gladly take it to protect some vulnerable lives in Nebraska,” tweeted Kristan Hawkins, SFLAction President. “We will be back next year with a Life at Conception Act to prevent all abortions.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-17-2023) – On the heels of a victory for the preborn in North Carolina, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) reported that Nebraska’s 12-week Abortion Prevention amendment passed thanks to the deciding vote of a legislator who won their election by a mere 373 votes, showing the importance of grassroots engagement.

After months of lobbying, phone calls, petitions, and spine deliveries, SFLAction is pleased to see some life-saving measures passed in this legislative session though #ProtectionAtConception is their highly sought after goal.

“We are glad the legislature committed to protecting the sanctity of life in some way, but with 95% of abortions being committed before 12-weeks we know next session a Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act must be passed at the bare minimum,” added Hawkins.

SFLAction will draw up plans to push a Life at Conception Act and Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act with the help of the Pro-Life Generation – the largest voting bloc who according to Student for Life’s YouGov polling want to see life protected in law and service.

There is no place for the predatory abortion industry in Nebraska, and SFLAction will work to ensure accountability is brought to those who opposed the Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act such as Senator Merv Riepe this fall.
