“New Hampshire has a state motto with incredible meaning – Live Free or Die – but this was never meant to be threatening against the people who call it home,” said Students for Life Action Vice President of Political Affairs, Chanel Prunier. “With the potential passage of these Constitutional Amendments, New Hampshire could soon put thousands of preborn lives at risk, turning what should be an aspirational slogan into a deadly threat that violates the spirit of this great state and nation: the protection of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

CONCORD, N.H. (1-31-2024) – Ahead of the scheduled vote for February 1st on state Constitutional Amendment CACR 23, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) is calling upon legislators in New Hampshire to vote against its passage.
Both CACR 23 and the other Constitutional Amendment, CACR 24, would enshrine into law abortion access at stages where the babies can live outside the womb, making New Hampshire only one of 19 states that allow it after 24 weeks – and potentially only one of seven that allow it without limits.
“The core problems with these two proposed amendments, beyond the fact that they allow a deadly status quo to continue, is that their language is so vague as to potentially allow abortion without limitations at all – all completely at the discretion of abortionists who are incentivized to push for them,” said Prunier. “What’s worse, there are Republicans who are supporting this effort. The party that has stood for pro-life values since Roe v. Wade was first put into law needs to remember why we fight: for the least of these and the most vulnerable among us.”
Data shows that 68% of New Hampshire residents want limits on abortion, despite the fact that both CACR 24 and CACR 23,could allow limitless abortion up to and beyond six months into a pregnancy.
“Constitutional Amendments, when signed into law, become extremely difficult to change,” said Prunier. “I ask the leaders in New Hampshire to consider that before they take this step – scientific advances are changing medicine every year, increasing the survival changes of babies born at 22 weeks and 23 weeks. 24 weeks is arbitrary; pain can be felt so much sooner, and the human heart starts beating around six weeks. Usually, on a battlefield or in an emergency room, health care workers rush to save lives. We owe that same care to those in the womb.”

SFLAction has been actively campaigning against limitless abortion, both in New Hampshire and around the country. This has included:
- Petitioning and engaging with voters to shut down Governor Sununu’s later-term abortion bills in the state.
- Testifying multiple times before the State Legislature, arguing against the expansion of abortion inside the state, including once in March 2023 and again in January 2024.
- Working alongside State Representative Dave Testerman (Merrimack District 3) for the introduction of House Bill 591-FN, which protects the preborn once a heartbeat is detected. This was SFLAction-inspired legislation.
- Helping to secure wins in key GOP primaries, ensuring that pro-life champions were sent to the halls of power in the State Capital.
“As SFLAction President Kristan Hawkins has said many times: we cannot make peace with a little abortion,” said Prunier. “And Republicans need to remember that their voters expect more from them than just being moderate Democrats on this issue. We ask that you stand up for life and reject these Constitutional Amendments.”
